Port of Heysham

About Heysham, Guide and Tourist Attractions
(Heysham, Lancashire, England, UK)

Heysham is not really billed as a tourist centre and those travelling to the area in order to sail to the Isle of Man should consider staying in the neighbouring towns of Lancaster or Morecambe, where it's fair to say there is considerably more on offer.

Lancaster is a university town with both an interesting history and modern urban developments, while Morecambe is a traditional seaside town with beaches, charming guesthouses and an array of evening entertainment venues.

What to Do in Heysham

There isn't a great deal to do in the town of Heysham and it's worthwhile making the trip to neighbouring Morecambe, where visitors will find all the charm of a traditional seaside resort. Alternatively, Lancaster has a reputation for culture. However, for those determined to explore Heysham, the recently built Heritage Centre is worth a visit, while the public gardens and the ancient chapel of St Patrick are also noteworthy.

Tourist Attractions

Attractions in nearby Morecambe include the Morecambe Megazone, a futuristic indoor theme park where visitors get to compete against friends in a laser gun shoot-out. Meanwhile, the Superbowl is a modern facility that is ideal for fans of ten-pin bowling. When the sun's out, Morecambe Beach is a great place to while away a lazy day, either just lying on the sand or messing around in the sea.

Lancaster is also within easy driving distance of Heysham and is a city offering culture and history, the latter epitomised by the city's many fine examples of Georgian architecture. Culture lovers can catch some of the best theatrical performances in the county at the Lancaster Grand Theatre and Dukes Theatre, while at the Nuffield Theatre, comedy, drama and dance are high on the agenda.

Besides urban attractions, Lancaster offers the scenic Pennines, which are ideal for lovers of rambling and hiking, rock climbing and mountain biking or for those who simply enjoy a pleasant afternoon's stroll amid fresh air and fine scenery.
